Service Description

Studies indicate that a significant portion of the population have experienced harmful or life-threatening events which have impacted their everyday functioning or well-being. Research further shows that individuals living with a disability are even more at risk for having experienced trauma in their lives than the rest of the population. There is good news: resilience, a person's ability to overcome serious hardship, can be grown over time. This session will introduce the topic of trauma-informed care in adaptive sports instruction, and will include: o An explanation of what trauma is and why it matters in relation to adaptive sports instruction; o An overview of the effects of trauma and how it can present; and o Concrete tools to help adaptive instructors avoid the retraumatization of athletes; help athletes regulate their emotions and build resilience; and de-escalate situations when necessary.

OMGoodness, Christine - I'm going to watch this presentation several more times - there are so many take-aways - WOW! Thank you for the time you have taken to share/teach, in such a clear and focused way, a transformative way to think about trauma, and how to act proactively in one's daily life....  You are very good at what you do, and I'm so glad I'm part of this learning process with you and others.
